Hi Martin,
ReplyDeleteI loved your background. I thought it really tied in with your blog post perfectly! While technology has made the process of ordering food much simpler and faster, let us not forget many of the other incredible benefits this type of technology provides to humanity. First, technology makes healthcare more streamlined. Thanks to telehealthcare, patient records no longer have to be stored in bulky filing cabinets and no longer have to be sent off to other healthcare professionals via the postal service or fax. Today, we reap the benefits of having our patient records digitized which makes it much more simple to share pertinent information which can lead to faster treatments and diagnoses that may, ultimately, save more lives and allow patients to experience a higher quality of life. What might be a few of the criteria for technology scouting?
Technology scouting is a process that requires a tremendous amount of research. I found that several consulting companies in the United States use a five plan method for technology scouting (Purdue University).
DeleteIdentify – Understand capabilities assets and objectives. Scope project and level of effort with Client or business owner.
Plan – Asses, and mind map inputs and objectives. Develop a research plan.
Research - Search and interview sources. Capture findings and inform client.
Analyze - Synthesize information and develop a SWOT (strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis. Draw conclusions.
Report – Document findings. Deliver findings. Profile best opportunities and recommend actions.
Technology is an ever changing world. What was once the latest device has long been changed and upgraded. It has come to the point that society could not function without the use of technology. Martin I think you have a great explanation of management in technology. This field can be applied to virtually any business. Businesses are always trying to find whether an investment in a technological innovation is worth the costs. That is where an expert such as yourself could help to lead the business in proper direction.
ReplyDeleteHi Cassaundra,
DeleteThank you for your feedback. There is in fact a great deal of responsibility in a manager in technology. There is responsibility to the business that the services are render. As you mention " Businesses are always trying to find whether an investment in a technology is worth the cost." However, there is also a social responsibility to the customers. This is where ethics and morals come into play.
Martin,

Martin,
ReplyDeleteI used to work in printing, and initially we provided what were called color keys prior to printing a full-color piece. Creating them was a laborious and expensive process where each of the four negatives (for cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks) were exposed to a corresponding color film and then developed. The four films were then aligned, and mounted to a white board for presentation. The client would arrive, take a magnifying class and scrutinize the piece. If something was wrong, the complete art process would start over. The point of this is that once PDFs were common, we'd email an image and the client would approve it on their own non-calibrated, low-resolution computer monitor. The change in technology completely ended the majority of high-end color keys, and the client only ever saw a vague representation of what their printing would look like but was quite willing to make the change for time and cost savings.
